Time slots open sporadically, and sometimes unexpectedly. When one becomes available, I offer it on a first come first served basis. I recommend calling or emailing me directly when you’re ready to start your services so that I can let you know if a time slot is currently available.

If you choose to work with me, you’ll need to complete the intake paperwork prior to scheduling our first session. This paperwork includes your consent for services, among other policies and procedures. Without this paperwork, we cannot proceed. Once we’re ready to begin, we’ll complete an intake session and identify the goals that you want to work toward while in treatment. Each session is approximately 50 minutes, and I prefer to meet with my clients on a weekly basis. As you begin to notice a decrease in the symptoms or behaviors that were initially causing you stress, we can gradually decrease the frequency of your sessions and prepare you for graduation.

The intake session is an opportunity for me to get to know more about you, so that I can begin to gain some insight to the factors that may be contributing to the issue(s) that we’ll be working on, as well as some of the strengths and protective factors that can be utilized to help you reach your goals. This includes areas such as: What prompted you to seek support at this time, previous history of therapeutic support, medical history, family history, etc. I’ll guide you through the process, and you’re welcome to skip anything that you’re not quite ready to discuss.

Not every therapist has this expectation. I have found weekly sessions to be most beneficial for my clients, as I often teach skills and techniques and encourage my clients to practice them outside of session. Weekly sessions gives us an opportunity to discuss the effectiveness of the skills, as well as the ability to pinpoint any day-to-day experiences in which skills would have been useful or beneficial. Thus, clients willing to adhere to the weekly expectation are prioritized. However, at times a biweekly time slot will become available as more established clients move toward graduation. I am willing to accommodate clients who wish to engage in therapy on a biweekly schedule if one of those time slots is available at the time of intake. If a biweekly time slot is not available and you don’t want to, or can’t, commit to weekly sessions, I’ll help you find a therapist who can better meet your needs.

Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time therapy can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.

I also encourage my clients to be open and honest about their personal experiences while in treatment.
